Moni Winanso Wachisangalalo Kucherokera Kwa Masisitere a Chimalawi ku Amerika

Once again happy greetings from the Malawian Sisters in America

The 28th of September was a lovely day for us all here in Greenwich. That Sunday at Vespers more than eighty people gathered together for the Clothing of Sister Esther Ernestina and Sister Mary Chimwemwe as novices, also the admission of Eva Jaunzems as a postulant, and the reception of Father Wayne Bowers and Rosalie Thompson as Associates. It was a wonderful day.

On 21st October, Bishop Christopher Boyle and his party, Father Mponda, Father Mtekateka, Father Ng’oma and Mrs Matayataya visited us here. We had a wonderful time with them. They told us many exciting stories about our Sisters in Malawi. When they were still here, we had a snow shower and they were all happy to see snow for their first time.

In November we had a big show storm—bit for us! We liked shoveling the snow.

We all had a wonderful Christmas preparation. We made gingerbread boxes of cookies for those who have been so nice to us since we have been here.

The four Malawian novices in the Cathedral

On the last Sunday in Advent we went to All Saints’s Cathedral, where we liked their ceremony (Christmas Lessons and Carols) and how the choir sang.

We give thanks for Rosalie Thompson and her friends from Zion Church, Hudson Falls who brought food at Thanksgiving, and Johnie from the Cathedral who cooked Christmas dinner for us.

Now we have seven goats, five female and two he-goats. This year we are going to breed only two goats. We will train the male goats to pull our cart. Now they enjoy waling in snow and eating their Christmas trees.

Finally, we would like to thank you all who are praying for us, and also for all the donors who are helping us in many ways. Thank you.

Note: We are hoping to send the entire Novitiate to a 3-day Workshop in Sustainable Agriculture in Pennsylvania in early May. This training proved to be immeasurably helpful to the 3 M’s. Financial assistance to pay for tuition and travel would be appreciated.

Plans are also underway for Mother Miriam to accompany Sisters Georgina and Patricia Taonga when they return to Malawi in May. Pray for the logistics, for financial provision, and for safety and health as she prepares for this trip.
