Diocese of Albany Breaks Ground for
New Convent in Greenwich

The CSM Sisters in Peekskill continue to work
with the staff of the Diocese of
Albany to integrate our new convent
into the larger vision of the Diocese’ Spiritual Life
Center in Greenwich, New York. “When
do we plan to move from Peekskill?” is
still an open question.
The Sisters have seen little progress so far
to resolving the lawsuit over the easement
through the convent’s lands. We have
changed our legal representation to a firm
in Albany to reduce our costs and get fresh
counsel. The case may delay the date of
the closing of the sale of the Peekskill
property and our ability to move. As an
act of faith, the Sisters have proceeded
with plans to move, actively sorting, packing,
and selling what will not be needed in our
new home.
Our thanks go to our bishops, to Matt Baker,
Director of the Spiritual Life Center, and
to Ron Baker, Construction Manager for the
Center. All are literally moving heaven
and earth to get us up to Greenwich. Ron
had the bulldozers clearing our hill before
the show had melted in March. The Sisters
are working closely with him to finalize
architectural plans, even as foundation
excavation continues.
We ask all our friends to continue to pray
for a speedy resolution to the lawsuit so
that we can close on the sale of the Peekskill
property in August.
St. Benedict’s House is now completely
shut down except for the apartments. Our
Associate Jan Armstrong continues to live
there to be with us.
Associate Peg Willis will be moving to Greenwich in
the middle of May to set up a base of operations
for us. St. Paul’s Parish has kindly
leased us their rectory beside the church
for the coming year of transition.
