Sister Mary Angela is spending four to five days a week this summer at the Oratory of the Little Way in Gaylordsville, Connecticut, in a new pilot ministry for the Community. The Oratory is a retreat house set in four acres of quiet woodland and dedicated to the healing of physical or emotional pain. Although under the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut, it is ecumenical and both individuals and groups are always welcome. The pace is relaxed and conducive to quiet healing. Under the direction of our Associate Nigel Mumford, a recognized authority across the country in healing ministry, she is joining his work of healing through intensive intercessory prayer. The Oratory’s mission statement says that we “Listen, Love and Pray,” and that is how Sister spends most of her day. We are looking forward to Sister’s return to Peekskill full-time next fall, working with Father Simmons in the same capacity as intercessor for those coming to St. Mary’s Spiritual Life Center. have almost all been challenging the medical professionals in Peekskill this spring. Sr. Mary Elizabeth had some corrective surgery and recovered phenomenally well in less than three weeks. Sr. Anastasia has had two major surgeries and is recuperating slowly in the Convent infirmary. Sr. Mary Jean had emergency surgery and is also recovering nicely. We ask your prayers especially for Sr. Mary Francis who had her right leg amputated. She is presently in a local nursing home getting restorative therapy so that she can remain as independent as possible when she returns to the Convent. Many of our friends have been asking about the Sisters’ future relocation to the Diocese of Albany. In the Advent 2000 Messenger Mother Miriam said that we anticipated that this would be a three to five year process, and six months later progress is such that three to five years seems to be the best estimate possible. We remain excited about the prospects of working with the Albany diocesan leaders in their careful development of the Albany Spiritual Life Center, but we are still actively offering retreats and space at St. Benedict’s House here in Peekskill. So come and see us! We’re still very much at home in Peekskill! |
