From the Mother’s Desk

Much has happened at St. Mary’s, Peekskill, since the first of the year. This issue is long overdue, and we apologize for the delay.

The Convent in Peekskill has been sold!

In mid-February the Sisters of St. Mary contracted to sell their remaining 26 acres to a private developer, Top of the Mountain, Inc., which is planning to build a wellness center on the site. The developer is in discussions with area medical institutions about setting up the facilities and intends to use the existing buildings.

The Sisters are working with the Diocese of Albany on plans to move to the grounds of the Diocesan Spiritual Life Center in August, 2003. Careful, that's next summer, not this summer. The Sisters will still be in Peekskill at least another fourteen months.

The last conducted Open Retreat will be over Labor Day Weekend, but St. Benedict’s Retreat House will remain open until December 31, 2002, for private retreats and visits. Then we will begin consolidating furniture for sale and for moving the following spring. Keep in touch for notice of sales. We have engaged a fine arts/antiques auction house to identify and sell at auction some nice pieces that will help us in our transition to a simpler lifestyle.

CSM Video: The Hidden Life
