Moni Winanso Wachisangalalo Kuchokera Kwa Masistere A Chimalalawi

(Once again happy greetings from the Malawian Sisters)

The 15th of April 2002 was a fabulous day! Georgina Chule and Taonga Folloma, new sisters from Malawi, arrived to join the Community of St. Mary. It was a blessing because this time they didn’t have difficulties with visas as others had.

Now we are going to introduce them. Georgina Chule was born on 18 February 1982. She is in a family of eight, with five brothers and two sisters. Her father is a mechanic and her mother has a retail business. She was living with her mother in Mzuzu. Her home district is Ntcheu in the Central Region of Malawi.

She was at Masasa Secondary School in Mzuzu, where her favorite subjects were Bible Knowledge, English and Mathematics. Her hobbies are reading spiritual books, cooking, knitting and listening to gospel music. When she was at home she was a chairlady of the St. Agnes Guild (like Girl Scouts), and she served at the Altar. While she is here she likes learning computers and taking care of the goats. Upon her arrival in this country, she was surprised to see the tall buildings and so many cars in comparison to Malawi.

Taonga Folloma was born on 21 January, 1982. She is the second-born in a family of seven, with three brothers and three sisters. Her father is a primary school teacher, and her Mum has a retail business. Before she came here, she was living with her parents at Likoma Island, which is her home district.

Taonga was at Skylight Private Secondary School where her favorite subjects were Bible Knowledge and English. Her hobbies are playing games, listening to gospel music, cooking, knitting and swimming. Her family raises goats for milk and meat. While she is here she likes to see the view of the Hudson River, learning computer skills, and taking care of the goats.

Georgina and Taonga feel that they have vocations to be sisters, and that is why they are here: So they ask everyone to abide with them in prayers so that they may be strengthened spiritually. They are all very happy to be here and they like all the American Sisters. We are so happy to have them. This is a sign that out Community will be getting bigger and bigger — Praise God! We are glad that our sisters came while it was spring because there are some similarities in the weather.

An interesting thing that we most enjoyed this spring was Bishop Christopher Boyle’s visit. He is the new Bishop of Northern Malawi. We enjoyed our time with him, and he told us more about the plans for our convent. This means that now we have confidence that we will have a place to live in when we go home. On 1st May, we went with the Bishop to Epiphany Church at Southbury, Connecticut. The people there were so generous and sweet. We give great thanks to them for their hospitality.

We will be having fun soon because the goats will be having kids. We will have more and more milk this year since we will be milking three goats. We are also glad that we have finished translating and typing our office book, and now we are doing our last checking. There is still a lot to do in three months. Since we are many, the work will be easy.

Finally, we wish to offer thanks to all friends who are supporting us. We hope that you will continue praying for us even when we go back home. We appreciate all your prayers so that we may have this opportunity to learn to become Sisters.

God bless you all !!
