The Rev. Jeffrey T. Simmons died of colon cancer at home on the hilltop, Friday March 22. He was fifty-six years old. The Rev. James B. Simpson died March 11 after a short illness. Father Simpson was an Associate since 1998 and an honorary assistant at the Church of the Ascension & St. Agnes, Washington, DC. He was a distinguished author of many books including a biography of Archbishop A. Michael Ramsey, and several on the events of recent Lambeth Conference. At the time of his death, Father Simpson was working on a “coffee table” book entitled The Treasures of Anglicanism. He had asked for pictures of the St. Mary’s Chapel stained glass windows and Sr. Mary Veronica’s murals in St. Scholastica's Chapel for this book. It is to be published by Rizzoli soon. Our longtime Associate Ilse Helmus died Easter Sunday, just two weeks after her beloved husband William died suddenly of a heart attack. Isle immigrated to this country from Germany prior to World War II and was a life-long member of the Daughters of the King. Our Associate Donald MacDonalddied June 5. He and his wifee Ortanza were organists and music teachers in Illinios when they first became Associates of the Western Province. They retired to Cathedral Village, Philadelphia, and transferred their Associate status to the East. Donald was faithful in coming to the Convent for retreats until his health prevented him from making the trip. |
